St. John Maximovitch Family Camp 2010

A very inspiring St. John Maximovitch Family Camp near Eugene, OR,  was held the last week of July. We spent 5 days at the spacious Sky Camp facility situated on the beautiful Fall Creek Reservoir. Near the lake were cabins, which housed over 60-70 adults and children, and a spacious lodge, where meals, lectures and daily prayer services occurred. Activities for the whole family were provided with adult lectures and programs for youth, ages 4-18.

Popadia Christina Oyer taught the younger children, 4-7, and this year had one of her largest classes to date, numbering 12 children. The children between 8 and 13 performed, under the creative directorship of Popadia Junia Tolbert, the life of St. Eustathius, his wife Theopistes and their two sons.  This is one of the many children’s plays that Popadia Junia has written for the Missionary School children’s program. CSB Publishing will soon be publishing them as an instructional booklet. We thank both Popadia Christina and Popadia Junia for the excellent programs they provide. Our thanks also go to Gregory Cleghorn and Athena Killinger who developed and led a great teen program this year. Other activities during the week included a lively talent show, swimming in the lake, hiking, the evening Three Kings Astronomy Club, and a wonderful Divine Liturgy during the conference.

Finally, our deepest thanks go to Fr. Dcn. Daniel MacKay (our newest CSB member) and his Deaconissa, Maria, who coordinated this year’s event, and to all the many parish members of St. John Maximovitch Serbian Orthodox Church for their hard work and a successful conference.
